Selling an Old AC, Generator or UPS: What You Should Know

Published 7 October 2026 · A S Traders

Equipment is often the most valuable part of an office clearance, and the part most people undersell. Here is what affects the price and what to tell a buyer.

Air conditioners

Working split and cassette ACs can be resold. Non-working ACs still contain copper and aluminium in the coils and piping, so they are bought by weight. Share the type, tonnage, brand and approximate age. Removal should include gas pump-down, sealing the lines and safely taking down outdoor units. See office AC removal and buying.

Generators (DG sets)

Generators are priced on kVA rating, make, running hours, condition of the engine and alternator, and whether the canopy and panel are intact. Non-working sets are bought for parts and metal. Removal often needs a crane, which the buyer should arrange. See second-hand generator buyers.

UPS systems and batteries

UPS units are priced by rating and condition; batteries separately by weight and type. Lead-acid batteries should be handed to a buyer who handles them responsibly, not put into general waste. See UPS buyers and battery buyers.

Central AC plants

Chillers, AHUs and cooling towers are large-value items that need planned dismantling, refrigerant recovery and lifting. See AC plant buyers.

What to share for a quick price

  • Photos of the nameplate (make, model, rating)
  • Working or not working
  • Where it is installed — floor, terrace, basement
  • Access for lifting
